Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam’s claim that he has cursed Harry Kane went viral after England failed to find a winner against Ghana in their FIFA World Cup Group L clash in Boston on Tuesday.

England dominated possession throughout the Group L clash in Boston on Tuesday but could not find a way through a disciplined Ghana side, settling for a 0-0 draw.

The defining moment arrived late in the second half when Nico O’Reilly’s powerful header struck the crossbar and the rebound dropped straight to Kane.

The Bayern Munich striker, six yards out with the goalkeeper beaten, blazed his effort over the bar.

England finished the match with 78.8 per cent possession, the highest recorded by a team in a FIFA World Cup match without scoring since 1966.

Kane admitted after the match he expected to score.

“You go through games like that. I was just there waiting for an opportunity like that to fall my way. It was kind of a game as a striker that you’re just waiting for the ball to bounce. And it did. I just couldn’t quite get over the ball,” he said. “But, yeah, I’m backing myself to score that more often than not. I’ve been a striker long enough to know they don’t always go in, so I have to accept it.”

Before the match, Bonsam had told a media outlet, “I’m working on Harry Kane. I’ve already shown what I’m capable of, and I know what I need to do to stop him. It won’t be a serious injury, but it’ll be enough to help my country.”

The miss also prevented Kane from moving past Gary Lineker’s England World Cup record of 10 goals.

After the final whistle, Bonsam posted a video on Facebook announcing he will lift the curse.

“I am the most powerful spiritualist in the whole world. Now I am going to release Harry Kane so that his next match he can score a goal,” he wrote alongside the clip, in which he appeared to perform rituals. He also added, “Harry I will come and visit you ok? We are brothers. I love you soo much.”

England remain top of Group L on goal difference after both sides moved to four points.

They face Panama in their final group match on June 27.
