Misbah-ul-Haq has resigned from Pakistan cricket’s selection committee after the board did not consult him on the Test squad it sent to England.
According to reports, he submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by email.
Reports added that Misbah’s notice period will now begin, and that he has informed the PCB of it. He is expected to formally part ways with the board once the notice period ends.
The resignation comes days after the PCB dropped Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq from the Test squad following the team’s poor run on the tour of England.
PCB has called up six replacement players for the Birmingham Test, including Saim Ayub, Arafat Minhas and Abdullah Fazal, according to the report. ARY News further stated that Mike Hesson will handle all team matters during the Birmingham Test.
The changes follow England’s win over Pakistan in the second Test at Lord’s. Chasing 389 for victory after England were bowled out for 208 in their second innings, Pakistan collapsed to 194 all out on the fourth day.
Abdullah Shafique fell for a duck, and Mohammad Rizwan managed just one run. Captain Babar Azam and Azaan Awais each scored six, while Shan Masood made 26. Saud Shakeel top scored with a fighting 97.
The result gave England their first win over Pakistan at Lord’s in 16 years and handed them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three match series after losing the first Test by an innings and 103 runs.
Pakistan will play the third and final Test match starting on September 9 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
