The latest episode of ARY Digital’s drama Dr. Bahu is making headlines after a specific scene was excluded from both the television broadcast and the official YouTube upload. Director Mehreen Jabbar shared the deleted scene on her Instagram account.
The clip from episode 10 features lead actors Shuja Asad and Kubra Khan in a sequence that has since triggered a social media debate about censorship standards in Pakistan.
The scene depicts Salman, played by Asad, assisting his wife Sania, played by Khan, with her sari in their bedroom. Jabbar posted the clip with the caption: “The full sari scene from episode 10 of Dr. Bahu that got left out from the cut.” The visual shows the characters standing in close proximity as Salman helps Sania drape the sari.
Public reaction centered on the inconsistency of media regulators and networks. Many users compared the removal of the romantic moment to the frequent depiction of aggression in other shows.
One viewer noted, “Danish Taimoor’s cheap ‘sensual’ acting is shown without issue,” while another asked, “But Danish Taimoor handcuffing his leading ladies or pointing guns at them is okay and doesn’t get censored?”
The discussion expanded into the industry’s comfort with televised hostility over affection. “There’s something deeply disturbing with how we’re comfortable with violence and abuse being shown onscreen but affection is where we draw the line,” a commenter shared.
Another user questioned the logic behind the cut given the content on other channels, stating, “They show such pathetic scenes at Geo TV and Green TV, where they showed Saba Qamar literally hugging and putting Usman Mukhtar’s head in her lap, so how come they censored such a subtle romantic scene?”
Despite the censorship, the audience praised the lead pair’s performance. Fans described the moment as “the kind of chemistry people write poetry about” and “insane chemistry acting and direction.”
Others defended the appropriateness of the scene, with one comment stating, “This is not inappropriate at all. Context matters; they are husband and wife and it is normal, so it is fine”.
Despite the scene being cut, fans are urging the director to keep sharing behind-the-scenes moments, while some viewers suggested that other characters’ scenes “could be cut” instead.
